Lowry nets series winning goal in second OT as Jets advance to Round 2
Written by Philip Paul-MartinNeal Pionk hammered a slapshot on net hitting Lowry's leg and careening past Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington to send the Jets to round 2.
"Ya it's incredibly special," said Lowry of his series winning tally. "I probably dreamt that it was a little nicer than just going off my leg. You know it's one of those things, on the outdoor rink, in the driveway. You dream about you know being the hero in a game 7. Giving yourself a chance to continue chasing that Stanley Cup."
The Jets came back from a two-goal deficit to post the win as St. Louis went ahead with a pair of first period goals and the Jets didn't tie it up until Cole Perfetti's second tally of the night with 1.6 seconds remaining in regulation.
"We gave it everything we had down to the last second," said Perfetti. "You know obviously missing some guys and guys were stepping up and playing bigger roles. You know there was no quit in this team. We never had any doubt. Even down 3-1 there was no doubt. You know we had a belief in one another and a belief we were gonna come back."

The goal was the latest game seven tying goal in NHL history.
There was no scoring in the first overtime.
"I've had a few painful ones. I've had overtime Game 7 losses," said Blues Head Coach Jim Montgomery. "Like it's uh, anytime your season ends it's painful." "The game tying goal, he breaks his stick and we think we can get the puck and win the battle. Unfortunately we didn't and we're out of structure and that's why there's a three-on-two at the net. They whiffed on their one timer and it goes right to a guy in the slot (Perfetti)."
Jets Head Coach Scott Arniel didn't hold back on his take of the game
"To be a part of that was one of the most exciting things I've been a part of. Man it was thrilling. We were extremely nervous to start the game, got down quickly. But our resolve, just our ability to stay in it. Pretty much that's all I kept preaching. Just hang in there, just hang in there....we got stronger as the game went on. We got out of that first period and then you know what after that it was a battle and to tie that game up at the end that was amazing and exciting. I would think anyone watching that one will keep that one in their memory banks for a long time."

There can be a bit of a sag and emotional letdown. But you know I thought the guys really rallied around it. Coming into the intermission and then finding out he's (Scheifele) not coming back. Guys needed to step up."

They were better than us," he said succinctly. "There's a lot of facets but we're onto the next one. Like it's a playoff series. I thought that was their (Jets) best game. I thought that was our worst game. We're onto the next one. We can analyze every part of it, they were better." "And let's make it clear. 55 got hurt from the Faksa hit. He played six minutes after the Schenn hit. He didn't come back after he got rocked by Faksa," added Montgomery.
Jets Head Coach Scott Arniel said Montgomery should have kept his thoughts on the hit to himself.
"Well I didn't know Monty (Montgomery) got his medical degree," quipped Arniel. "Trying to say how our player got hurt. He's way off base. He should not make that comment." Game 6 goes Friday in St. Louis.

Jets edge Blues 2-1 to take 2-0 series lead
Written by Philip Paul-Martin“Only game-winners. Ha, I’ll take it," said Connor afterward.
“It’s good. Obviously, we talked about our mentality going into tonight. You saw, it was a tight-checking game, run around, not a ton of space and not a ton of odd-man rushes. They weren’t going to be beat that way, we weren’t going to be beat that way. Just came down to who wanted it more. I thought once we did get that go-ahead goal, we did a great job of just kind of clogging up the middle, not allowing their (defencemen) to beat us up the ice and just playing good (defence) there," he added.
Mark Scheifele had a goal and an assist to pace the offence.
Connor Hellebuyck made 21 saves for the Jets.
Jimmy Snuggerud scored the lone goal for the Blues.
Jordan Binnington turned aside 20 shots for St. Louis.

St. Louis tied it up on the power play with less than a second left in the first when Pavel Buchnevich found Jimmy Snuggerud at the top of the faceoff circle and the rookie forward made no mistake, wiring a wrister and beating Hellebuyck high blocker side to make it 1-1.

The Jet winger made no mistake, beating Binnington cleanly with a wrister to make it 2-1 Jets.
St. Louis Head Coach Jim Montgomery pulled Binnington with 2:17 left in regulation following a time out.
He was succinct in his assessment of the series thus far after the game.
"Winnipeg's made one more play than us, you know, both games. Shots are dead even you know and they're just making one more play and their best players are making them," said Montgomery.
Jets Head Coach Scott Arniel echoed that sentiment, saying Scheifele has elevated his game in the playoffs.
"Well that's your best players playing at the top of their game and that's what Scheif has done. You can see he's taken on that challenge. He's going head-to-head against their best player and whether it's defending or whether he's offence with the puck he has a strong skill set that we have seen all 82 games and you can see he's taken it into this playoff series," said Arniel.

You know a lot of plays like those cross-ice plays, even the one that Fetsy (Cole Perfetti) made on the power play. I’m trying to get that off as quickly as possible, near a lot of holes in the goaltenders if you can. It was obviously a great play by Scheif. Just try to get it off quick," said Connor.
Scheifele just wanted to get the puck on his stick and let Connor work his magic.
"Oh it’s amazing. All I want to do is put the puck in his hands and he does some fantastic things. Like I said before, I’m lucky to play with him.
